Various Manatee County departments will be showcasing their efforts to promote a more sustainable Manatee County at Efest this year. Vicky Zimarino of the county’s Utilities Department reports that her display will promote water conservation both indoors and outdoors. Information about the county's rebates for water conservation practices and the rain barrel program will also be shared. Visitors will find a variety of promotional items with educational themes for children to reminder key chains and such for the adults. The Recycling Division will promote the curbside recycling, hazardous waste and e-scrap collection programs. Efest visitors who stop by the exhibit will receive promotional items made from recycled material.
The Parks and Recreation Department will be kicking off their “Respect for Nature” campaign at Efest according to Director Cindy Turner. Guests can pick up the Fall events schedule, learn about the “Best Management Practices” used by park maintenance, and ask questions of knowledgeable staff. Staff members with the Natural Resources Department staff will bring a unique traveling exhibit that will showcase the County's conservation preserves. A wide variety of free resources will be available, including preserve brochures, wildlife watcher fact sheets, and the 40-page Manatee County Paddle Guide.
Efest visitors will also find exhibits from the Agriculture and Resource Conservation Department’s Extension Service Division in the Landscape tent. Exhibits will be manned by trained Master Gardener volunteers to answer landscape and plant questions. Visitors to Efest are encouraged to bring samples of problem plants to the booth for identification and problem solving solutions.
