Dubconsciouswww.dubconscious.com

Since DubConscious’ inception in 2002, this dub reggae collective out of Athens, Georgia has created and maintained their place on the cusp of solution-based philosophy, social and environmental awareness, and the evolution of today’s music. They are dedicated to spreading the word on sustainability, unity, and a greater understanding of the human experience.

DubConscious often perform at festivals that support conscious and sustainable practices, and are committed to their own mantra of being the change they wish to see in the world. Their unique blend of dub, reggae, and afrobeat pays homage to such musical pioneers as Burning Spear, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Fela Kuti, and King Tubby. DubConscious incorporates elements of r&b, hip hop, rock, spoken word, and electronica, making them a favorite amongst a diverse and rapidly growing fan base.

DubConscious have developed solid roots in the fertile music cradle of the southeast, and have since branched out. They have been performing to audiences throughout the country at major music festivals including Bonnaroo, Reggae On the Rocks, 10,000 Lakes Festival, Langerado, and Sweetwater 420 Festival.

DubConscious has recorded five albums. Their debut, Word of Life, was released in 2004 and their sophomore release, American Dream, in 2005. Realization, a double disc album released in 2006, was recorded at the legendary Tree Sound Studios and produced by Grammy Award winning producer Robert Hannon. In December 2007, DubConscious returned to Tree Sound Studios to record their most ambitious and artistic effort to date. NonViolent was released in early 2008.

DubConscious’ genuinely inspiring performances, coupled with their studio recordings, successfully harness the energy and powerful nature of the genres they exemplify, as well as ensure their indelible mark on social, conscious, and musical evolution for years to come.

will have gunwww.myspace.com/hgwt

Have Gun, Will Travel began as a vehicle for the songs of Matthew Burke, singer-songwriter and former front man for Florida the indie-rock trio The Chase Theory. Burke began writing and recording these songs at home, then performing them in front of crowds around the Tampa Bay area. By combining elements of folk, rock, punk, bluegrass, and traditional country music with an indie sensibility, the music takes on a style of its own.

Evan James of American Songwriter Magazine explains why HGWT’s self-recorded, debut EP release was featured in the publication’s ’Under the Radar’ section: “HGWT's self-titled EP is a testament to the fact that you don't need ostentatious artwork or $25,000 production to make it into Under the Radar; all you need is good songs.”

What started out as a solo, mostly acoustic project has since evolved into a full-band effort. With the help of brother Daniel Burke on bass, drummer JP Beaubien, guitarist Nate Oliver, and Josh Hernandez on viola, HGWT received the Critic's Choice Award for Best New Band in Creative Loafing’s Best of the Bay ’07. The song Come, All Ye Sinners was the number one song on WMNF Community Radio 88.5 FM for four consecutive weeks after being featured on the BAAMO (Bay Area Arts & Music Organization) CD compilation Cheatin’ Heart: Tales of Lies & Love.

“HGWT’s freshly minted full-length debut, Casting Shadows Tall as Giants, ranks with anything on the national Americana charts. Its gorgeous acoustic guitar-based melodies are fleshed out with back-porch banjo, lap steel, viola, piano and harmonica. A taut rhythm section that occasionally operates in subdued rock mode propels the songs. The mostly traditional instrumentation, arrangements and production provide a supreme backdrop for Burke’s reedy, intimate singing about charlatan preachers, finding solace in a lover's arms and facing up to the responsibilities of growing older.” Wade Tatangelo, Creative Loafing

ShakNastiwww.shaknasti.com

Born in March 2004, Orlando-based
Shak Nasti started synthesizing supple
thumps and crystalline sheets of joy on top of snow peaked mountains. An aggregate of several genres, The Shak managed to coalesce the biproducts into one tantilizing thing. We call it Shirley. The band is about connecting to people, lyrically or musically, or sometimes physically. The music cannot be boxed into a specific movement, so consider it a variety band, playing groove, drum–n–bass, reggae, Americana, and a little Afro–beat.

Shak Nasti is Tim Turner (vocals, guitar/guitar synth), Matt Sapham (bass) and Rion Smith (drums). Influences include Steely Dan, Miles Davis, James Brown, and Geggy Tah.
